Srinagar

A jewel of a destination, Kashmir is one of the most amazing holiday destinations in India. Srinagar, the state's winter capital, is the first stop for most travelers to Kashmir; and with its great lake and meandering river, its exquisite pleasure gardens and romantic Shikara rides, the old-world charm of its houseboats and the ageless grace of its architecture, the city is a fitting introduction to the many enchantments of the valley.

Dal Lake


The Dal Lake which has the length of 8 Km long and a width of 4 Km, spreads over a total of 26 Sq. Km.

Pari Mahal


Pari Mahal is more of a monument garden. This was initially a garden built by Dara Shiko for his Sufi teacher, Mulla Shah.

Jamia Masjid

Shalimar Gardens are the piece de resistance of Srinagar's many gardens and parks.

Nishat Garden, Srinagar


Nishat Bagh, though smaller than Shalimar, is more intensely beautiful.

Chashma Shahi


Shah Jehan is reputed, also, to have laid out the gardens of Chashma Shahi, so named because of a mountain spring that waters it.

By Air


There are daily flights to Srinagar from Delhi, Mumbai, and Jammu. Srinagar airport is 14 km from the city.

By Rail/ Train


Jammu is the nearest railway station for Srinagar, about 305 km where trains arrive from Delhi, Calcutta, Pune, Mumbai, Kanyakumari, Ahmedabad, etc.

By Road


National Highway 1-A, connecting Srinagar with Jammu, is a good, all-weather road with several sharp inclines and hairpin bends. It is maintained by the Border Roads Organization (BRO), which clears the road of any obstructions resulting from natural causes like landslides and heavy snowfall. The famous Jawahar Tunnel that connects Jammu with the Kashmir Valley across the Pir Panjal range falls en route. Before the Jawahar Tunnel was completed, the journey took two days with an overnight stop at Batote. Now, it can be covered in one long day. It is also possible to travel by taxi from Jammu to Srinagar in about 8 hours.
